To mark World Autism Awareness Day, the National Fund for Vietnamese Children organized a parade in Vinh Phuc province. Communications activities conducted by 15 autism centers will help autistic children improve their skills, and help the public understand autism better.

Funded and implemented by the Vietnam Children’s Fund and the Phu Nhuan Jewelry Company, a project to help children with autism integrate into society with the help of better understanding by the community began in 2018 and will continue until next year. In three years the project has drafted a set of recommendations on rehabilitation measures and better case management by teachers and administrators at intervention centers. The project’s many training activities, workshops, and communications activities have given teachers and parents nationwide a better understanding of autism.

The Vietnamese government has designed a program of social support and functional rehabilitation for people with mental disorders and children on the autism spectrum until 2030. The program has implemented many solutions to give autistic children better access to health care, education, vocational guidance, occupational therapy, and cultural and sports activities. A network of support centers to provide care and functional rehabilitation for autistic children has also been set up.

The program has set a target of giving 80% of children on the autism spectrum improved access to health care services by 2025, giving 70% of children under 6 a screening for early detection of autism, and giving 80% of autistic children access to kindergarten and primary education.
