Son La is the largest fruit tree growing area in northern Vietnam, with nearly 85,000 ha producing hundreds of thousands of tons of fruits each year. It has 281 planting area codes granted for export to Australia, the US, China, and the European Union, mainly for Song Ma longan, Yen Chau mango, Son La plum, and Mai Son custard-apple.

Son La's fruit harvest season begins in April and runs until November. Promoting sales of local agricultural products on digital platforms is an important way to develop an agricultural digital economy.

In mid-August, a training course was organized in Song Ma district to strengthen OCOP product sales skills on digital platforms for local young people. Through Tiktok, Youth Union members, young people, and farmers conducted a livestream sale of more than 20 OCOP products, which are Son La's agricultural specialties.

In 4 hours, the livestream program "OCOP Fair – Son La, returning to the agricultural region" attracted 20 million visits and more than 570,000 views and sold 5 tons of Song Ma longan plus 2,300 orders of agricultural products, earning 20,000 USD.

Nguyen Anh Duc, a member of Tay Bac Cooperative in Vieng Lan commune, Yen Chau district, said his cooperative received more than 150 orders within a few hours of selling on the digital platform.

“This is a change for the cooperative's sales mode because TikTok is a very strong platform that can reach many people with a demand for our products. But previously we didn’t know how to use it to sell our products. Today’s livestream is very effective, helping us to sell black garlic and other agricultural products,” said Duc.

The training has helped businesses, cooperatives, and business households promote trading via digital platforms, develop the digital economy, introduce products, open new distribution channels, and expand domestic and international markets.

Ha Van Dai of Lung hamlet in Chieng En commune, Song Ma district, said through the training session, he learned about a new trend in digital transformation and selling on e-commerce platforms makes him less dependent on merchants.

Having quick access to new trends, dynamism, creativity, and leading in digital transformation, start-up, and sales skills, Youth Union members and other young people have helped promote and sell local OCOP agricultural products on e-commerce platforms.

According to Cam Thi Huyen Trang, the Secretary of the provincial Youth Union, “After attending the training course, young people will have more opportunities to use digital transformation applications to promote OCOP products and other local agricultural products on digital platforms. We also hope that Youth Union members will be more aware of digital transformation in local socio-economic development.”

Thanks to using digital transformation applications in OCOP promotion, Son La is realizing its aspiration to master science and technology and get rich.

The province will continue to work with young people to organize forums, seminars, and in-depth training courses on the OCOP Program, with a focus on digital transformation, to promote the production and trade of OCOP products, especially on digital platforms.
