(VOVworld) - The second meeting of the 12th Party Central Committee opened in Hanoi on Thursday to discuss the committee’s working agenda during its tenure, socio-economic development plans until 2020, and the nomination of officials for state agencies.

Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong addressed the opening ceremony: “discussion topics should focus on ensuring a close link between economic growth, Party building, and cultural development towards fulfilling the targets set for the next five years at the 12^th National Party Congress. Priorities should be given to urgent matters and key tasks requiring more breakthroughs and meeting the essential needs of society.”

General Secretary Trong said socio-economic development and public investment plans until 2020 aim to institutionalize the resolution of the 12th Party Congress.

He clarified: “mid-term plans are essential to match market developments, ensure the balance between budget collection and spending, and borrowing and debt payment, and address slow progress and inefficiency in public investment.”

Members of the Party Central Committee will decide on the nomination of candidates for the posts of President, Government Prime Minister, and National Assembly Chair, which will be considered by the National Assembly.
