19th Asian Physics Olympiad begins in Vietnam

(VOVWORLD) - The 19th Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO) opens in Hanoi on Sunday, with the presence of Vietnamese Minister of Education and Training Tran Xuan Nha, APhO President Leong Chuan Kwek, 188 competitors, representatives of 50 delegations, and observers from 25 countries and territories. Vietnam has 8 students attending the Olympiad.

Minister Nha said Vietnam successfully hosted Asian Olympiads of Physics, Mathematics, Chemicals, and Biology. This is the 3rd time the Asian Physics Olympiad being held in Hanoi. Mr. Nha said that Vietnam acknowledges the important role of fundamental science and physics in particular in boosting scientific and technological development amidst the rapid progress of the 4th industrial revolution worldwide. The Vietnamese government will pay much attention to developing physics. STEM educational method will play an important part in new education curriculum to promote physics at general education.

The APhO President said the competitors were selected and trained to represent their countries. Besides the week-long competition, they will participate in exchange program to talk about their dreams, aspirations, and their national culture.
