(VOVworld) - A pipe bomb tossed from a bridge to Bangkok’s Sathorn transit pier at 13h20 local time on Tuesday caused an explosion but no injuries or damage. According to the Bangkok Post, the improvised bomb was thrown from the Sathorn bridge, but hit a pillar and bounced into a canal where it detonated harmlessly, sending up a large plume of water. Thai police closed Sathorn Road to traffic from the pier to the nearby Skytrain station to investigate.

The incident followed a huge bomb explosion that appeared to target a popular Hindu shrine in central Bangkok, killing at least 22 people, including foreign tourists, on Monday and wounding about 120 more.

Thai Police confirmed on Tuesday that the man pictured in yellow in CCTV footage is the Bangkok bomber who set off the explosion at the shrine.

Asian countries’ leaders condemned the people behind the bomb blast and asked their citizens to stay on high alert.

The Hong Kong authorities urged their citizens not to travel to Bangkok while the Cambodian government tightened security and ordered local police forces to closely follow any information related to the attack to avoid similar incidents.
