(VOVWORLD) - The 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians opened in Hanoi on Thursday with the theme “The role of youth in accelerating the achievement of the sustainable development goals through digital transformation and innovation."

The event was hosted by the National Assembly of Vietnam and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). Speaking at the ceremony, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, said: “It is a great honor for Vietnam to the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians. Through this conference, Vietnam wants to demonstrate its active and responsible participation in the IPU as well as its special attention to youth and youth’s global issues.”
Mr. Hue highlighted the agenda of the conference which include the compliance with international law and the United Nations Charter, which is a crucial condition to promote peace, cooperation, and sustainable development.
High on the agenda are also the role of developed countries, international organizations, business communities, and youth in addressing global issues, making people and businesses the center of all policies, said He.
He urged the participants to look at ways to leveragethe values of culture and human beings in sustainable development, and promote respect for cultural diversity in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Chairman Hue proposed that the IPU consider the establishment of a global network of young parliamentarians dedicated to innovation, allowing them to exchange experience and learn from one another.
In his message to 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians, President Vo Van Thuong said: “I highly appreciate the theme of this year, which reflects the common concern of all countries - how to make full use of the achievements of science and technology and innovation, how to enhance international cooperation and get young people more involved in resolving global issues to contribute to peace and prosperity for every country in the world.”
The Vietnamese President expressed his belief that Vietnam’s National Assembly will continue to cooperate with the IPU and the Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians in specific action for global peace, stability and development.
