(VOVWORLD) - An armed group called the "Islamic Resistance in Iraq" announced Tuesday that it had attacked two US military bases in Syria in response to US support for Israel’s attacks in the Gaza Strip.

The group said it targeted the US base at the Al-Omar oilfield in Syria with a drone and, in a separate operation, the American base in the Green Village deep inside Syria, also with a drone.

On Monday, the US said US and international forces stationed in northeastern Syria were attacked by drones and missiles at least four times in 24 hours, but the attacks caused only minor damage and no casualties.

The US Department of Defense has accused Iran-backed groups of carrying out 45 attacks against US forces in Iraq and Syria since the current fighting in the Gaza Strip broke out. The attacks have injured at least 56 US soldiers.
