ASEAN, Indian senior officials convene 20th meeting

(VOVWORLD) -ASEAN and Indian senior officials have discussed implementation of outcomes of the ASEAN-India Summit in January and reviewed their achievements over the past 25 years of dialogue partnership.

Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung addressed the 20th ASEAN-India Senior Officials Meeting in Hanoi on Friday, saying that this meeting focuses on future direction of ASEAN-India ties and agenda of their Summit, particularly connectivity, trade, investment, and people-to-people interaction. He added that concrete measures will be needed to strengthen cooperation in these areas and other areas that promote growth and prosperity for people of both sides and the wider region.

Preeti Saran, Chair of ASEAN-India SOM, said the ASEAN-India Summit opened opportunities for further cooperation with their dialogue partners. She noted that ASEAN is a successful model in addressing traditional and non-traditional security challenges to maintain regional peace and stability. Ms. Saran reiterated India’s support  for ASEAN vision.

The 20th ASEAN-Indian SOM also discussed preparations for the 51st ASEAN Ministerial Meeting in August in Singapore and the 16th ASEAN-India Summit in November in India.
