(VOVworld) – At least 19 people were killed on Friday in the Pakistani city of Peshawar in a gun and bomb attack on a Shi'ite mosque. Police said armed men broke into the mosque, where more than 200 people were attending Friday prayers, and opened fire, following which three explosions were heard inside the building. The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility and said the attack was revenge for Pakistan's crackdown on militants following a December school massacre. President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif have strongly condemned the attack and ordered all supports for the victims. This has been the second attack on Shi'ite mosque in the last two weeks. At least 60 people were killed and many others were wounded in a similar attack on a Shi'ite mosque in the southern town of Shikarpur on January 30th.
