Bac Ninh pagoda welcomes world’s largest jade Buddha

(VOVworld) - A ceremony was held at Dau pagoda in Bac Ninh province to welcome the world’s largest jade Buddha statue, which will be displayed there until September 9. Head of Dau pagoda, nun Thich Dam Tuy, said that during the exhibition various ceremonies for revolutionary martyrs and global peace, and lectures on Buddhism, and art performances will be held by the Bac Ninh chapter of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha.

The “Jade Buddha for Peace” statue was carved in Thailand from an 18-tonne jade called Polar Pride, discovered in Canada in 2000. The statue has toured more than 20 countries and 100 cities worldwide. It was brought to Vietnam for the first time in 2009 and was displayed at various pagodas across Vietnam.
