Le Van Quy, Vice Chairman of the Dien Bien city People’s Committee told VOV: “This year’s festival will be held in a larger scale as part of celebrations of 65 years of the Dien Bien Phu victory. It not only highlights local culture but also educates the younger generation about Vietnam’s history.”

The event will feature a folk art festival, an exhibit of local cultural and tourism products, and folk games.

A similar Ban flower festival opened in the northwestern province of Son La on Friday.

“The festival creates a venue for us to meet people from across the region and popularize the cultural values of northern ethnic minority groups, especially the Thai people. We are showcasing our specialties and traditional customs to visitors,” said Lo Thi Van, a resident of Son La city.

A highlight of the three-day event is a music show with hundreds of professional and amateur artists taking part. A cultural camp competition, display of local signature products, and folk games will also be held.
