(VOVworld) – At least 10 people have been killed and 21 wounded in a car bomb attack in Baghdad’s Shiite al-Jadeeda district. The same day, a bomb hidden beside a street exploded in the Karada district, killing 2 and wounding 7.

In a related development, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton has called for an emergency meeting of EU foreign ministers to address the conflicts in Iraq, Ukraine, and Gaza. According to a news source in Brussels, the meeting will be held before August 26. Meanwhile, out-going Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said only a federal court verdict can remove him from office. He said his government will continue working, despite Iraqi President Fuad Masum’s appointment of another Iraqi politician to form a new government.
