According to Mogho Naba, the "king" of Burkina Faso's Mossi people, Zida made the promise at a meeting of army officers, local leaders, and foreign envoys.

On Monday, Zida pledged to form a unity government to monitor the political transition after other African nations gave the regime two weeks to restore civilian rule.

The same day, opposition leaders met with mediators from the UN, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the African Union’s special envoy to Burkina Faso, and former Prime Minister Togo Edem Kodjo to discuss ways to return to civilian rule.
