(VOVworld) - Burundi's President Pierre Nkurunziza vowed that Major-General Godefroid Niyombare will be punished by law for announcing a coup on Wednesday.
President Nkurunziza travelled toTanzania on Wednesday to attend an extraordinary meeting of the East African Community (EAC) - Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Burundi - and headed back to capital city Bujumbura several hours after the coup attempt. 
Negotiations were ongoing between army factions to seek a way to safeguard national interests and protect Burundi citizens.
