Cambodia, Thailand pledge to refrain from conflicts

(VOVworld) - Cambodian and Thai commanders at the front line met near Preah Vihear temple on Tuesday in a bid to build mutual trust between their two armies after the International Court of Justice (ICJ) released its decision concerning the disputed land around the temple.

Both sides pledged to strengthen solidarity and build mutual trust between their armies to avoid any clashes in the future. They also agreed to comply with the ICJ’s judgment.

On Monday, the ICJ confirmed Phnom Penh's sovereignty over the whole territory of the promontory of Preah Vihear and asked Thailand to withdraw its military. Since UNESCO awarded the 900-year-old Preah Vihear temple the world heritage status in 2008, clashes between the two countries have resulted in dozens of deaths.
