At Wednesday reception for President of the Cambodian National Assembly Samdech Heng Samrin in Hanoi, Prime Minister Phuc urged the Cambodian legislature to back closer cooperation between the two countries to raise bilateral trade from 4.7 billion USD in 2018 to over 5 billion USD by 2020.

Mr. Phuc said Vietnam always promotes cooperation and friendship with Cambodia and supports Cambodia’s national development. He said he wants the two countries to continue sharing information to maintain security and stability and never allow any force to use the territory of one country to conduct sabotage against the other.

The Prime Minister thanked the Cambodian Government for supporting Overseas Vietnamese and asked Cambodia to simplify the procedures for obtaining legal papers and to handle the resettlement of people living on the Tonle Sap river.

Vietnam is standing for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 term and will be ASEAN Chair in 2020 when Cambodia will host the 13th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM 13). Prime Minister Phuc said Vietnam stands ready to support and coordinate with Cambodia in maintaining and promoting solidarity and a common stance with ASEAN.
