(VOVworld) – The National Assembly of Cambodia has strongly criticized an announcement by opposition leader Sam Rainsy saying that the 5th legislature doesn’t represent people’s aspirations. It noted that Sam Rainsy’s statement has seriously affected the solemn role of King Norodom Sihamoni.

The criticism was made after Sam Rainsy, President of the Cambodia National Rescue Party on Wednesday sent a letter to King Norodom Sihamoni. According to the letter,  Cambodia’s National Assembly is illegal because a majority of the body is representatives of the Cambodian People’s Party.

A statement released by the Cambodian National Assembly on Friday said that the 5th legislature represents Cambodian voters and people’s aspirations via a free and democratic election. The operation of the Cambodian National Assembly is in line with the constitution and law.

Meanwhile, 55 CNRP law-makers denied their roles and responsibilities. CNRP’s boycotting under the form of street demonstrations has led to violence, social and security disorder causing material and spiritual losses for people and affecting Cambodian images. CNRP’s acts are going against the missions of parliamentarians to support and protect the supreme role of the King in any circumstances.
