Celebrations to mark the 37th anniversary of the liberation of the south

Major newspapers on Monday carried news stories about the April 30 victory. The People’s Army editorially highlighted the victory as a strategic and glorious success of the nation and Vietnam ’s revolutionary heroism. The People’s daily newspaper reported on major social economic development of Ho Chi Minh City after 37 years of reunification, including an annual growth rate of 11.2%. The Liberated Saigon editorially reasserted the all Party, army and people’s effort to strive for national development, social equality and democracy.

As part of celebration to the anniversary, President Truong Tan Sang has paid a work visit to a construction project in the southern province of  Kien Giang to restore a revolutionary relic. The project aimed to pay tribute to martyrs who sacrificed their life for national independence and freedom.

The central province of Quang Tri on Monday held a flag hosting ceremony to mark the reunification day. The event praised sacrifices by local people in the struggle for national independence and freedom. Deputy Party Secretary and Chairman of Quang Tri People’s Committee, Nguyen Duc Cuong: “Thousands of people from all parts of the country came to Quang Tri in protect the nation and northern socialism while joining southern liberated soldiers to fight for national reunification. After the war, Quang Tri has recovered and made positive development in socio economic growth and security while mobilizing strengths along the East West economic corridor for further progress.”
