Catherine Samba-Panza will be tasked with ending the country's turmoil and months of sectarian violence as she heads a transitional government. She replaces Michel Djotodia, who had to resign on January 10 due to pressure from the international community. The newly-elected interim President asked MPs to urge Muslim and Christian gunmen to drop their guns, and end months of bloody conflict in the Central African Republic. Meanwhile, the EU has agreed to send soldiers to this country to help restore peace. According to EU Foreign Ministers, 400 to 1000 soldiers will be sent. There are currently about 4,000 African troops and 1,600 French troops in the CAR to help end the violence. This will be the first big campaign of the EU in the last 6 years. International organizations have pledged 500 million USD to the Central African Republic.
