(VOVworld) - President Xi Jinping on Tuesday called for more strategic trust and reciprocal cooperation between China and the United States.

At a meeting with former U.S. Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger, at the Great Hall of the People in downtown Beijing, Xi highlighted the importance of building a new type of China-U.S. relationship as well as peace, stability and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region and the world. He said China attached great importance to ties with the United States and was ready to make joint efforts with the U.S. side to develop the relationship. Mr. Xi also said that to advance the Chinese-U.S. relationship, the two sides should learn from history, bear in mind the overall situation and enhance mutual understanding in order to build strategic trust with each other. For his part, Kissinger hailed the ongoing historic reforms in China and said that the U.S.-Chinese relationship was an important one involving global peace, progress and development.
