Making clay firecrackers is a long-standing folk tradition in Vietnam’s northern delta. In Hai Duong, the tradition is still alive in Ninh Giang, Gia Loc, and Tu Ky district.

Every year, from the first to the fourth lunar month, localities in Hai Duong province organize clay firecracker competitions, and the best teams represent their commune at the provincial firecracker festival.
