COVID-19: Vietnam infection tally passes 10,000, Tien Giang imposes social distancing

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam reported an additional 68 locally-transmitted COVID-19 cases during the past 12 hours, raising its national count of infections to 10,048, the Ministry of Health said at 6am on Saturday.

From 6pm Friday to 6am Saturday, Bac Giang province, Vietnam’s COVID-19 hotspot, detected 29 cases, followed by Ho Chi Minh City (20), Tien Giang (10), Bac Ninh (8) and Lang Son (1).

Vietnam’s total number of recoveries since the start of the pandemic is 3,804. The death toll has risen to 57.

From 0 hour on Saturday, the southern province of Tien Giang imposed social distancing amid the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a public notice of the provincial People's Committee.

The notice said chairpersons of People's Committees of districts, towns and cities in the province can decide to implement social distancing in their areas to ensure the effectiveness of disease prevention and control.

The People's Committee of Tien Giang province advises the public to strictly comply with safety regulations, avoid large gatherings, stay home, wash hands frequently, wear masks in public places, and refrain from visiting medical examination and treatment establishments, especially for the elderly and people with underlying medical conditions.
