Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh attends UN high-level dialogue on poverty reduction

(VOVworld) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh shared Vietnam’s achievements in poverty reduction at a UN’s high-level dialogue on Friday in New York.

Mr. Minh said Vietnam’s poverty rate sharply decreased from 58 percent in 1993 to 8 percent in 2014. The result is attributed to Vietnam’s dimensional approach in poverty reduction. The Deputy Prime Minister stressed the need to raise people’s awareness, encourage people to overcome their difficulties, and support the most vulnerable group in disadvantaged localities. In order to support member countries, especially developing ones, Minh said, it is essential to promote cooperation, global partnership for development with the UN playing a role as an important consultant and coordinator.

On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, German Chancellor, Norway and Kenya’s Prime Ministers delivered  speeches under the theme “From global dialogue to global action - Implement sustainable development goals”. Mr. Minh shared Vietnam’s experience in early completion of the UN Millennium Development Goals, stressing the foremost condition for success is to ensure a peaceful and stable environment.
