The global media made comments on the move, which came just hours after Pyongyang demolished the Punggye-ri nuclear test site.

CNN correspondent Will Ripley who was invited to North Korea to cover the event said due to President Trump’s decision, all the faith Washington and Pyongyang had built in recent weeks had completely fallen to pieces.

US online paper Slate.com commented that Trump’s decision illustrated his lack of respect to South Korea which has played a role in arranging the historical summit. According to the site, the administration of South Korean President Moon Jae-in was absolutely surprised and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo dodged questions on whether or not the US had informed South Korea in advance of Trump’s decision.

Talking with Sputnik, Dmitry Mosyakov, an expert from Russia’s Institute of Oriental Studies, said Trump’s move could be anticipated because the US often has 2 points of view on North Korea. First is to set up the relations and impact on North Korea’s regime via aid. Second is to increase sanctions to topple the existing regime. Mosyakov said the second viewpoint is more dominant which can be seen through the US’ recent military drills with South Korea.
