DPJ opposes Lower House dissolution

Executives of the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) remain opposed to Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda’s intention of dissolving the Lower House. Chairman of the Lower House Foreign Affairs Committee Yoshikatsu Nakayama called Noda to step down from office if he’s still keen on a snap general election. Nakayama said if the Lower House is dissolved, the DPJ is likely to loose its administration as support for the Cabinet has continued to fall. He pointed out the ultimate solution as Noda’s power hand-over.

Former Agriculture Minister Michihiko Kano said this is not the time to “create political vacuum” amid internal and external challenges Japan is facing including stagnant economy and territorial disputes with China. Chairman of the National Public Safety Commission Tadamasa Kodaira said DPJ has many things to do before dissolving the Lower House.
