The 14th National Assembly Standing Committee's third session on Thursday discussed amendments to the Law on Irrigation while would authorize the state to invest in building major irrigation works including those for which it is difficult to mobilize financing and those serve defense or security purposes or to prevent or control natural disasters.

Priority would be given to constructing reservoirs in areas at high risk of water shortages, in areas severely affected by climate change, and in disadvantaged areas of ethnic minority people.
