Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien directly monitored the drill at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on August 17, 2014.

The capacity of relevant agencies at Tan Son Nhat airport was tested through a simulation during which quarantine staff members detected a passenger with fever. The relevant agencies, which include the Pasteur Institute and the Hospital for Tropical Disease, followed strict procedures defined by the airport’s steering committee for epidemic diseases. Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien said: “We practiced with possible situations following set procedures. Vietnam needs to set up medical stations in the Hospital for Tropical Disease and also at Tan Son Nhat International Airport. We must take full advantage of healthcare stations near the airport for isolation. In special cases, commune medical stations will monitor patients in their homes.”
At Tan Son Nhat aiport, 33 suspected passengers were checked, including one from the epidemic area. None showed any infection by the Ebola virus.
