Egypt, Italy pledge to co-operate in counter-terrorism

(VOVworld) – Italy and Egypt have pledged to strengthen co-operation in counter-terrorism, two days after a car bombing targeted the Italian consulate in Cairo, killing one person and injuring 10 more.

Addressing a joint press conference with the Italian Foreign Minister, Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said that Egypt needed the international community’s support in the fight against terrorism, adding that Egypt was responsible for securing all diplomatic missions.
Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni said that Italy valued Egypt’s efforts in the fight against terrorism. He said that the bombing, an attempt to undermine Egyptian-Italian co-operation, would fail, because the two countries would continue to work together against terrorism and for peace.
