Egypt tightens security prior to the swearing-in of President el-Sisi

(VOVworld) – Egyptian security force has been deployed in key sites across Cairo prior to newly-elected President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s swearing-in office. Cairo has announced a state of emergency across its institutions on Saturday and on the swearing in on Sunday.

The event will be broadcast live on the national TV. A grant ceremony and various activities to celebrate the event will take place in Tahrir square and places near the Presidential palace in Heliopolis. President el-Sisi will chair a banquet with the participation of 15 world leaders including crown princes and kings of countries in the Gulf, Palestinian President Mamoud Abbas and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

In another development, the Shubra criminal court in Cairo on Saturday sentenced 10 Muslim Brotherhood supporters to death in absentia. The decision has raised concern over violent demonstrations by supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsi.
