(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc received Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in Hanoi on Thursday.

At the meeting, the Prime Minister promised to urge relevant Vietnamese agencies to work with their Egyptian partners to realize signed agreements and increase two-way trade to 1 billion USD. Prime Minister Phuc said he hoped the two sides will strengthen bilateral cooperation in national defense, agriculture, culture, tourism, transport, and education in the near future. He asked Egypt to facilitate the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group’s investment in Egypt. He stressed the importance of assigning relevant agencies to research President Ho Chi Minh’s activities in Egypt saying they are valuable heritages of bilateral ties.

President Sisi called for Vietnam’s investment in Egypt saying that his country is a gateway for Vietnamese goods to enter the African and Middle Eastern markets.

At a meeting with President Sisi the same day, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said Vietnam treasures and wishes to promote friendship and multi-faceted cooperation with Egypt, especially in politics-diplomacy, culture, sports, tourism, and education-training.

President Sisi urged the two countries to increase mutual support and delegation exchanges. He asked Vietnam to share its parliamentary experience with Egypt.

President Sisi and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh on the same day co-chaired the Vietnam-Egypt Business Forum in Hanoi. Minh said that the forum served as a platform for enterprises from both countries to explore business and investment cooperation opportunities. He said the Vietnamese Government will accompany and create favourable conditions and an open investment environment for Vietnamese and Egyptian businesses to increase bilateral trade to 1 billion USD. The Egyptian President said Egypt welcomes Vietnamese businesses to invest in developing small-and medium-sized enterprises, shipbuilding, construction, aquaculture, fertilizer, and garment-textiles.
