Egyptian prosecutor appeals against Mubarak verdicts

Egypt’s Prosecutor General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud on Wednesday appealed against the verdicts on former President Hosni Mubarak and several of his senior officials over killings during the uprising at the stant of last year. Mubarak and former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly, were both sentenced to life in prison, however six senior police officials were acquitted. In his appeal, Mahmoud demanded the June 2 verdicts be annulled and a new trial be held. Corruption charges against Mubarak's sons, Alaa and Gamal, were also dropped because the statute of limitations had expired. However, Alaa and Gamal remain in custody, as they are awaiting trial on other charges.
