(VOV)- An Egyptian tourism gala was held in Hanoi yesterday as part of activities to mark the 49th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Egypt diplomatic ties. In his opening speech, the Egyptian Ambassador to Vietnam Reda El Taify said that tourism is one of Egypt’s most important economic pillars, which contributes 12% to the country’s GDP. Egypt welcomes about 13 million international tourists annually. The Egyptian Ambassador expressed his hope at increasing tourism cooperation with Vietnam. Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Tourism Administration Nguyen Manh Cuong highlighted the significance of the Egyptian tourism gala saying that it was a reflection of the fine cooperation based on a memorandum of understanding on tourism cooperation signed by the two governments in 2006. "Through this event, the tourism sectors of both countries hope to promote the land of the Pyramids to Vietnamese people thus strengthening bilateral ties. The two countries have agreed to help their travel companies increase cooperation. The Vietnam Tourism Administration and the Egyptian National Tourism Agency will create the best conditions to increase the number of visitors", said Mr. Cuong.

During this event, the Nuba Drum, one of Egypt’s most famous bands performed several special musical pieces.
