The decision was made at the EU summit in Brussels on April 17-18. European Council President Charles Michel said that sanctions will target Iranian producers of drones and missiles.

The EU leaders called on all parties to refrain as much as possible from any action that might increase tensions in the region. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said it is important that Israel will not answer with a massive attack.

Also on Wednesday, Finance Ministers and Central Bank governors of the Group of Industrialized Countries (G7) pledged close cooperation in implementing sanctions against Iran.
