EU to use profits from Russia's frozen assets to aid Ukraine

(VOVWORLD) - Ambassadors from EU countries agreed on Wednesday to use windfall profits from Russian central bank assets frozen in the EU for Ukraine's defense, the Belgian government said.

On social platform X, Belgium said the money will be used for Ukraine’s economic recovery and military defense. In March, EU leaders agreed to use profits from the frozen assets of the Russian Central Bank to support Ukraine.

According to their plan, Kiev will receive additional support worth 3.3 billion USD a year. Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, has proposed using earnings generated by those assets to purchase ammunition for Ukraine.
