(VOVworld) -  The European Parliament Civil Liberties Committee on Thursday approved a plan to interview Edward Snowden, a former Central Intelligence Agency employee, who disclosed operational details of a global surveillance apparatus run by the US National Security Agency.

The committee voted to organize a televised talk from Russia, where Snowden is temporarily taking refuge. Members of the European Parliament have asked the EU to show a tough attitude to Washington, including threats to stop discussions of a free trade agreement between the EU and the US. But some right-wing members of the EP are doubtful about Snowden’s motive to reveal the information.

The EP will vote on the committee’s plan next month and, if it’s accepted, the interview will take place two months later.
