Federal judge in Hawaii blocks new travel ban nationwide

(VOVworld) – A federal court on Wednesday blocked President Donald Trump's executive order freezing immigration by refugees and citizens of six predominantly Muslim nations, putting the President's revised travel ban on hold just hours before it was to take effect.

The ruling came from US District Judge Derrick Watson on Wednesday. Watson wrote in his order that Hawaii residents have cited significant evidence to prove that the ban would cause unfixable damage.

The decision struck down, at least temporarily, the Trump administration’s attempt to pause all refugee resettlement for 120 days and block citizens of Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen from entering the US for 90 days.

The Federal Court in Honolulu is the first court to issue a temporary restraining order (TRO) against the Trump travel ban. President Trump called the ruling an example of "unprecedented judicial overreach" and said his administration will appeal it to the US Supreme Court.
