Fighting continues, humanitarian aid stalled in Sudan

(VOVWORLD) - Witnesses said that Sudan’s capital Khartoum was shocked by gunfires and air strikes on Saturday. The UN has called for immediate actions to end indiscriminate killings in Darfur city. Fierce clashes over the last 2 months have obstructed humanitarian aid.

Residents in Khartoum said they have been running out of food and other supplies as they sheltered in their homes from the gun battles.

The UN reported that about 1.5 million people have left Khartoum since violence broke out in April. Those who are staying in the city have less safe drinking water and food, while electricity is mostly out.

The bloodiest violence broke out in Darfur, a vast western region bordering the Republic of Chad, where the UN has raised the spectre of ethnic violence and crimes against humanity.
