Finland becomes new member of NATO

(VOVWORLD) -The Finnish flag will be raised at NATO headquarters in Brussels Tuesday, signaling that Finland has become the 31st member of the alliance, said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Monday, adding that it will make Finland safer and the alliance stronger.

Stoltenberg said that Turkey, the last country to ratify Finland’s membership, will deliver its ratification documents to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday to complete the procedure.

Finland and Sweden abandoned their military non-alignment policy and asked to join NATO last year, and their application requests were approved at a NATO Summit last June. Turkey and Hungary not yet ratified Sweden’s membership.
