First Vietnamese-American woman elected to US House of Representative

(VOVworld) –Democrat Ngoc Dung Stephanie Murphy from Congressional District 7, Florida, defeated her Republican opponent John Mica to win a seat in the US House of Representatives on Wednesday.

Thirty-eight-year-old Murphy, whose Vietnamese named is Dang Thi Ngoc Dung, served as a national security specialist for the US Department of Defense after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. She was invited to speak at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, back in July. Murphy will be the first Vietnamese-American woman to serve in the US House of Representatives.
