This is the first time a Vietnamese candidate has run for the post of WHO Regional Director of the Western Pacific.

The region’s member states will vote in a closed meeting in the Philippines in October and the nomination will then be submitted for appointment by the WHO Executive Board in Switzerland next January.

The WHO Western Pacific region is home to 37 countries and territories with a population of more than 1.9 billion people.
