G7 summit opens

(VOVworld) – The G7 summit opened in Japan on Thursday. This has been the first G7 summit held in Asia in 8 years. During the morning session, delegates discussed global economic issues and the G7’s aims and values.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said G7 members should be unanimous in issuing financial and monetary policies to address global economic stagnation. Delegates also discussed the early ratification of the TPP, maritime security, and anti-terrorism. The expanded G7 summit will open on Friday with maritime security expected to top the agenda. The expanded summit will stress the importance of law enforcement, the issuance of principles based on international law, and the peaceful settlement of disputes.

A leaders’ statement and 6 other statements will be released at the closing of the G7 summit.
