He told a meeting of the National Steering Committee on Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing Prevention and Control held in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province that this is a crucial moment for Vietnam to have the "yellow card" lifted. If a "red card" is issued, it will not only result in economic losses but also seriously damage Vietnam's reputation, he noted.

The Deputy PM warned that the seafood industry may face similar risks of a "yellow card" in other markets outside the EU.

More drastic measures are urgently needed to address IUU fishing, he said, urging law enforcement agencies at sea to intensify patrols and inspections to prevent fishing vessels from violating foreign waters.
