Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan has just submitted a document to the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Transport, proposing to adjust the capital's second airport into an international airport.

Hanoi estimates that the city’s greater metropolitan area population would reach about 21-23 million by 2050, similar to that of Ho Chi Minh City at 24-25 million. The capital region also needs to have two international airports to meet transport needs and ensure aviation security and safety, said the capital authorities.

Mr. Tuan said that the second airport should be located in the south and southeast of Hanoi such as Ha Nam, Ninh Binh, and Hung Yen province.
