Thousands of protesters have filled Cairo's Tahrir Square to denounce a move by Egypt's ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces to seize sweeping powers. The protest came after Islamist parties and revolutionary movements called on people to denounce the supplementary Constitutional Declaration issued by the ruling military council as well as military interference in the process toward the democracy in the country. The protest is also against the Supreme Constitutional Court’s recent ruling that dissolved Parliament.

According to government and western diplomatic sources, Ahmed Shafiq will be announced as the winner of the presidential elections with 50.7 percent of the vote on Sunday.
