ILO pledges further support for Vietnam on labor, employment

(VOVWORLD) -International Labor Organization (ILO) pledges to continue supporting Vietnam in all matters related to labor and employment, ILO Director General Gilbert F. Houngbo said and expected to work with Vietnam to implement the global employment initiatives by combining both sides’ advantages for balanced development of economy, society and environment.

The visiting ILO chief on Friday met with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh who said Vietnam has made certain progress in terms of labor and trade unions, with the legal system on labor and social security being increasingly improved, and labor market management more effective.

Prime Minister Chinh affirmed that Vietnam supports the initiatives of the ILO and the UN, suggesting that the ILO continue to support Vietnam to study the possibility of participating in initiatives to achieve justice and social progress goals and ensure the legitimate rights and interests of workers in a sustainable way.

He expressed his wish that the ILO further support Vietnam in perfecting the legal system on labor; extensive reform of the social insurance system and wage policy to develop harmonious, stable and progressive labor relations; and continue to implement technical support projects.

The ILO Director General emphasized that the ILO and the United Nations consider Vietnam as a model of efforts and development for other countries to learn from. He said he believes that Vietnam will continue to develop to spend more resources on social security.
