India accuses China of fuelling East Sea tensions

(VOVworld) - Indian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sushma Swaraj has called on China to avoid any unilateral acts that might fuel regional tension following the US’s confirmation that China had deployed surface-to-air missile system to Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago.

During her keynote speech at the 8th Delhi Dialogue in New Delhi on Thursday, Swaraj said the oceans and seas, including the East Sea, are pathways to prosperity and security. Each country can make full use of maritime resources to develop its green economy but it must be abide by international law. She stressed that India supports the development of regional structure, including the fair, transparent, and open cooperation in the Asia-Pacific.

The same day, India's foreign ministry spokesman Vikas Swarup reiterated the importance of full, effective implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea and early adoption of the Code of Conduct in the East Sea. They are essential for regional peace and stability, he said.
