India, Spain back resolving East Sea disputes in line with international law

(VOVWORLD) - Spanish President Mariano Rajoy met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday to discuss ways to boost bilateral relations.

Regarding the East Sea issue, the two leaders stressed the importance of resolving disputes in the East Sea in accordance with international law. They also reiterated a commitment to the freedom of navigation and overflight, and unimpeded commerce based on the principles of international law, as reflected in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. They urged all parties to resolve disputes peacefully without resorting to threat or use of force, exercise self-restraint in the conduct of activities, and avoid unilateral actions that raise tensions.
