(VOVworld) –Indonesian President Joko Widodo shared Vietnam’s concerns over recent complications in the East Sea and stressed the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security, naval and aviation safety.
Widodo made the remarks at Thursday meeting with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh as Minh co-chaired the second Vietnam- Indonesia Bilateral Cooperation Committee. Widodo wished that parties will resolve the issue peacefully, in respect of international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, fully abide by the Declaration on the Conducts of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), toward finalizing the Code of Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (COC).

At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh also asked the Indonesian President to positively consider the import of agricultural products, electronic devices and other Vietnamese products.

He also urged ministries, localities and relevant agencies to enhance current procedural mechanisms as well as establish new cooperative mechanisms to boost the two countries’ strategic bilateral relation, foster maritime cooperation including establishing a hotline between the two naval forces, and strengthen regular sea patrols, search and rescues, to combat human trafficking, terrorism, and transnational crimes.
