(VOVworld) - Joint UN and Arab League envoy Kofi Annan said yesterday he was optimistic after a second round of talks with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, but acknowledged it will be difficult to reach a deal to end the violence in Syria.
The former UN Secretary General said he has left concrete proposals with Assad to resolve Syria’s problem. Annan added that the proposals will defuse the current situation in Syria and help launch a process to end the crisis. During his talks with Assad, Annan called for an immediate halt to killings, permission for humanitarian organizations to approach hot spots, and a political dialogue.
