International press briefing on GMS-6 Summit's outcomes

(VOVWORLD) -The sixth Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS-6) Summit wrapped up successfully with many key documents ratified, including the Joint Statement of the sixth GMS Summit, the Hanoi Action Plan for 2018-2022 and the Regional Investment Framework 2022.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc told an international press conference in Hanoi on Saturday right after the conclusion of the GMS-6 Summit:The Summit has mapped out major cooperative orientations in the mid-term and initiated the drafting of a long-term vision for the GMS. We have adopted the Hanoi Action Plan for 2018-2022 with major orientations and cooperation measures in the coming time while the Regional Investment Framework 2022 provides a list of more than 220 projects worth about 65 billion USD. The Summit activated a long-term vision after 2022 in the context of GMS countries working towards the UN sustainable development agenda by 2030.”

At the press conference, ADB President Takehiko Nakao praised Vietnam’s initiative on organising the GMS Business Summit, the first of its kind, which helped strengthen dialogues between enterprises and governments and connect businesses in the region and the world, while encouraging resources from the private sector. He said that the GMS aims to mobilise 66 billion USD in the next five years, in which ADB will provide at least 7 billion USD for the region. The ADB will focus on projects in renewable energy, smart power grids, multimodal transport towards green transport. He said diverse investment will nboost GSM development.
